Weather Description:
Low 30s, partly cloudy. Light winds.
Snowpack
Snowpack Description:
No probes were used to gauge depth. Snow was soft in north-facing aspects, with crust forming on south and west facing aspects. "Whoomphing" was observed in multiple locations during the climb back out of back bowl descent. Facets were also forming on top of snow.
Avalanches
Avalanche Description:
Skiers descended on primarily north-facing aspects with slopes 28-35 degrees into back bowls of Huntsman Ridge. Remote avalanche was triggered on a northwest facing slope on opposite side of the bowl about 50-100 yards from skier route. Avalanche appeared to be approximately an R2-D2 slide with a slab depth of about 1 foot and a slope of about 45 degrees. Elevation was approximately 10,300 ft, below treeline. A previous slide from before the most recent storm was also observed on an east-facing aspect off Huntsman Ridge.
