Location
BC Zone:
Vail & Summit County
Area Description:
Victoria SW/NW/W facing trees
Weather
Weather Description:
Partly sunny, breezy, with periods of snow and heavier wind
Snowpack
Snowpack Description:
Consolidated snow pack with crust layers noted on W to SW aspects. NW aspects had a bit better bonding between new snow and old surface. Wind skin to wind slab a few inches deep in open, SW areas. Snow very reactive when touching more W/SW aspects in open areas with trees, with wind slab/storm slab combo moving. Slab was not very large and could only probably take you off your feet, but I was not expecting as much of an issue on these aspects that day. Slab was breaking at new snow/crust layer.
Avalanches
Avalanche Description:
No avalanches observed in area ridden. Went on a quick tour on bike path to check out conditions towards Peak 1 in Tenmile Canyon and observed one avalanche Saw on avalanche observed in West Curtain chutes, NW aspects below Half Peak (between Victoria and Peak 1).
