Location
BC Zone:
Front Range
Area Description:
Mt Trelease
Weather
Weather Description:
Slight wind from the NW, blowing snow off of the peak and main big bowl
Snowpack
Snowpack Description:
Lots of variability noted in a small area. Hand pits dug adjacent to the slide yielded collapses at the interface between old surface facets and the new storm snow. We dug a larger pit 0.1 miles to the South and an ECT over there, we didn't observe any results in either the new snow or hoar at the ground. Snowpack at the pit consisted of mixed 4finger and 1finger slab on top of depth hoar. Total depth of 100cm. The snowpack at the slide was significantly less deep.
Avalanches
Avalanche Description:
R1D1 soft slab avalanche in the new storm snow. Crown approximately 12inches and 15 yards wide. Aspect: East. Elevation: 11300. Slope angle: 34. Terrain features: convex rollover below treeline in a more open area. Skier triggered right next to a shallow rock (in pics). No one caught.
