Avalanches
Avalanche Description:
riding the tight trees on the south end of Vasquez Glades this morning. About 100' to the right of my line where the trees open up to the rocky and open slope, I remotely triggered an avalanche that propagated through this weekends storm layer, then stepped down once it reached the steep and rocky (38 degree) convex slope. Neither of us were caught, as we were riding in adjacent tightly packed trees. We were able to safely examine the skiers left of the slide, by traversing in below dense trees to the crown. We dug a 135 cm deep pit adjacent to the crown, and found that the shooting crack to the trees at the crown traveled through last weekends storm snow (to 75cm above ground), then once it got to the open area, it stepped down to the ground for about 100' to another rock/tree outcropping, around this corner, the crown continued for another 150ish feet, but only on this weekends storm layer. you can see the crack in the pit photo. the crown was probably 200' wide total, 5' deep max (estimated), and ran about 200'
