Snowpack
Snowpack Description:
I went out today to investigate an avalanche that destroyed a house near the town of Montezuma. On the was there I dug two quick snowpits. The first snowpit was on a southwest-facing below treeline slope. Although I would get results in compression tests in the storm snow, none would propagate fractures. The snow depth was 150cms. I got the same results on a north-facing near treeline slope. The snow depth was 2 meters. In both snowpits there is weaker snow in the lower pack. No failures were evident in test in the lower pack.
