• Route Description: Skied up in treed ridge directly east of Vail pass, reached treeline and skied south on the ridge, skied down through sparse dead trees.

• Snowpack Description: Shallow to about 3' deep on this western aspect. Supportable crust with new snow on top, lots of basal facets.

Landmark: Vail Pass Average Slope Angle: 30 ° Maximum Slope Angle: 33 ° Elevation: 11400 ft Sliding Surface: G - At Ground/Ice/Firm Weak Layer: Layer Weak Layer Grain Type: Depth Hoar Average Crown: 30 in Maximum Crown: 36 in Average Width: 60 ft Maximum Width: 100 ft Average Vertical: 120 ft Maximum Vertical: 150 ft Comments: Remotely triggered by skier traversing above the roll. Surprisingly large avalanche for the size of the path and relatively low slope angle.
