Accident Summary

PRELIMINARY: On March 1, 2024, at approximately 1330 hours, Law Enforcement received a call alerting them of a possible avalanche fatality in the southern Selkirk mountains, near the Pack River drainage, in Boundary County. The Boundary County Sheriff’s office and Boundary County Search and Rescue operations have concluded, but the body recovery mission is ongoing. High avalanche danger and strong winter weather have delayed the mission. A Search and Rescue crew will resume the mission as soon as possible. We are not releasing the name of the individual at this time.

Due to the ongoing nature of this mission and the safety of those involved, we’re asking the public to stay out of the Fault Lake trail area.

U.S.F.S. Idaho Panhandle Avalanche Center will conduct a full investigation and report as soon as possible. Our hearts go out to the family and friends affected by this tragedy.
